Fire Update - Mon., Aug. 31 August 31, 2009 The Morris Fire is now 100 percent contained, but the Station Fire has doubled in size overnight, with active fronts in Tujunga Canyon, Acton and Mt. Wilson. The fire is only 5 percent contained and has burned an estimated 85,760 acres. More homes have been lost, though an exact number remains unclear. Two firefighters died while responding to the the fire Sunday night. We ask you to pray for the firefighters who are reaching the point of exhaustion and now are fighting the emotional toll of losing two of their own. Please also continue to pray for all the families who have been impacted as well. The APU campus has not been threatened in any way, however smoke from the fire is impacting the Azusa and surrounding areas. The South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued a smoke advisory for the San Gabriel Valley due to unhealthy air quality. APU Community: We continue to encourage the university community to take precautions to protect your health and the health of your employees and students. Supervisors, please evaluate all outdoor activity that employees and students may be engaged in and reschedule as necessary.
