Segerstrom Science Center Hydrochloric Acid Spill
September 11, 2009

Around 3:25 p.m. this afternoon, a bottle of hydrochloric acid broke accidently in a lab within the Segerstrom Science Center. An internal team quickly assessed the situation and followed emergency protocol to ensure the safety of the students and faculty in the building. The building was immediately evacuated and secured.

APU’s Department of Campus Safety, Facilities Management, the Azusa Police Department, and the L.A. County Fire and HazMat teams quickly responded and are assessing the people involved, as well as beginning to neutralize the spill for clean-up.

At this point, there appear to be no injuries, and the situation is under control. The building will remain closed for the next 2-3 hours.
