H1N1 Influenza Update: Oct. 8 October 8, 2009 Since our last update, APU has remained in Stage 1 of its flu response. The university has identifed about 70 total cases of students with flu-like illnesses since the start of fall semester, with the average illness lasting 3–5 days. The Student Health Center estimates that about 25 of those cases have been H1N1. The Student Health Center has continued to isolate students with flu-like symptoms to provide quality care and minimize risk of exposure to the APU community. In the last week, the number of students isolated at any one given time has dropped from an average of about 5–9 to 1–2. The Student Health Center in coordination with Residence Life and other offices on campus will continue to provide care as outlined in the previous H1N1 update. We encourage everyone to continue to practice good hygiene to prevent the spread of the viruses. Students experiencing flu-like symptoms should call the university's 24-hour Flu Hotline at (626) 428-6274. |
