H1N1 Influenza Update: Nov. 2
November 2, 2009

As of today, the university has identified about 128 total cases of students with H1N1 influenza or influenza-like illnesses (ILI) since the start of fall semester, with an average of about 12 cases per week.

More than half of the students diagnosed have gone home for recovery, with the remainder going into campus isolation to be cared for and monitored by the Student Health Center. These solutions are helping to prevent the viruses from spreading further while also providing students with the care they need.

We continue to encourage undergraduate students to contact the Student Health Center's 24-hour Flu Hotline at (626) 428-6274 if they exhibit flu symptoms. We are asking that all students, including undergraduate, graduate, and CAPS, do not come to class if you are sick.

We ask faculty and staff to exhibit the same precautions. Please see your primary care physician and do not come to campus if you exhibit flu-like symptoms.

We encourage everyone to continue to practice good hygiene to prevent the spread of the viruses. We are still waiting to hear when the university will receive the H1N1 influenza vaccine and will inform the campus community when it becomes available.
