About This Major
Why This Major Is Relevant
Our constantly changing, technology-driven society defies traditional marketing. Web 2.0 social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook, cell phone text messaging and web browsing, and TV filtering systems like DirectTV and TiVO present new challenges and opportunities to businesses as they learn to communicate with their customers in a new world. Both for- and non-profit organizations need experts who can help them navigate these uncharted waters and ensure that they are taking advantage of new technology and best-practices to reach their target audiences. APU’s marketing degree uniquely equips professionals to meet this challenge, guiding their organizations to communicate effectively in a volatile, shifting marketplace.
Gain In-Depth Learning Experience
The marketing program emphasizes real-world internship experience. Students have the option to take part in Students in Free Enterprise, a program whereby they work on marketing projects with community businesses and present the results to Fortune 500 CEOs. As part of the International Marketing course, students can work on marketing projects abroad through the International Business Institute. Additionally, many students choose to participate in the General Motors Internship Program, which involves a national marketing competition and the formulation of a comprehensive promotional strategy. These provide practical opportunities to network in the field and ensure that marketing students graduate with significant experience on their resumes.
For those who wish to complete an MBA immediately upon graduation, the School of Business offers the Young Executive MBA Program, a rigorous, internship-based MBA program that allows students to complete their master’s degree in one additional year.
