Message from the
Undergraduate Programs Chair

Julia J. Underwood, Ph.D. Success. Integrity. Character. Ethical leadership. We develop these competencies within the School of Business and Management (SBM) at Azusa Pacific University. Industry today demands a profound demonstration of these important attributes. Sure, you could demonstrate mastery of the programs offered here at APU with diligence, effort, and aptitude. But SBM's unique offering, which raises it above other academic institutions, is the integration of ethics within every course, combined with character development fostered by faculty dedicated to you. Active-learning lectures, scenarios, group projects, and field and case studies further equip students to develop Christian core values which include: integrity, character, and ethical leadership. Such experiences, within a culture that honors excellence, provide preparation and confidence for the many situations which leaders are challenged on a daily basis.

In addition to the 43-unit core curriculum for the bachelor's degree, each business major has the opportunity to focus on Accounting, Business Administration, Business Economics, Economics, Finance, International Business, or Marketing. The directed studies within the major subject matter equip students for ultimate success. Each faculty member within SBM has been selected for their demonstrated industry experience and research within their given field of study. As such, the thorough, specialized preparation students receive is directed from those who know the definition of success and know how to teach that to others. Imagine a teacher who brings recognized industry experience, has an ongoing research agenda, a passion for infiltrating industry with a Christian worldview, and — a heart for students! That's the School of Business and Management! That's what will set you apart from your business colleagues, placing you at the front of the line.

The determination of your success in academics and industry lies with you — those who challenge themselves in and outside the classroom consistently rise as the top forerunners in competitive organizations. Because of this, many of our students have secured competitive career positions prior to graduation. Others receive multiple acceptance letters from esteemed graduate institutions. Pursuing your academic career at APU's School of Business and Management is a wise choice.

I encourage you to make time for a campus visit and conversation with an SBM faculty member. Your first step towards your academic success begins today. Call the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to move forward.

Respectfully,

Julia Underwood, Ph.D.
