APU’s MATUL program in Manila, Philippines, works in partnership with the Asian Theological Seminary Center for Transformational Urban Leadership. In answer to the growing need for graduate-level theological education among pastors and urban workers serving among the poor, the center emphasizes theoretical foundations and intensive ministry experiences.
Located in Quezon City, within the heart of metropolitan Manila, the center is close to many squatter settlements, which are accessible by a brief ride on a jeepney—the ubiquitous form of transportation in the Philippines.
The seminary has a history of practical theological reflection on church growth, community development, and urban issues. Special focus is given to the needs of leaders working among the urban poor.
