The Seven, with Chris Brown '95, Campus Pastor

1.

Where do you get your energy?

I am a naturally upbeat guy who tends to push the envelope as long as I have a Saturday or Sunday afternoon to regroup by crashing on the couch and watching sports.

2.

What do you think the relationship should be between the intellect and faith?

The first part of the greatest commandment is to "Love God with all of your heart, soul, MIND, and strength." Christianity therefore, is not just a crutch for weak minds and weak people, but a living relationship that can be explored, challenged, affirmed, and broadened by the intellect.

3.

What was the most meaningful class you took as an APU student?

In my very first semester as an undergraduate transfer student, I took a Life and Teachings of Jesus class that completely revolutionized my way of seeing and teaching Jesus.

4.

What recent movie has taught you a significant life lesson?

Since the birth of our daughter, Sayla, we haven't been to many movies, but the Simpsons still remain my main inspiration to laugh at life, and destroy the Ned Flanders stereotype of Christianity.

5.

If you could make APU students do one thing before they graduate, what would it be?

Fall deeply, passionately, and intimately in love with God, and truly experience the freedom we have in Christ, instead of the bondage we get from religion.

6.

Who has had the most impact on your development as a man of God?

My older brother, Mark, demonstrated real Christianity to me in real-life situations. Also, Dr. Bruce Baloian, who teaches religion in our School of Theology, impacted my development.

7.

What was the last book you read cover to cover?

Last night, I read the talking bear book while my eight-month-old daughter curled up on my lap. I don't think I will ever have a greater experience with a book than that.

Before beginning as campus pastor in 2001, Chris Brown '95 was the youth pastor at Pomona First Baptist.
