The Seven, with Ray McCormick, Professor of Communication Studies

1.

What books are you reading now?

Van Til's Apologetic: Readings and Analysis by Greg L. Bahnsen and Eyes Wide Open: Looking for God in Popular Culture by William D. Romanowski

2.

What books are collecting dust on your nightstand?

Left Behind. After one chapter, I have left it behind.

3.

What author would you like to meet at Starbucks?

John Steinbeck. While there are theologians that I enjoy reading, Steinbeck's style, substance, and insight into the human condition always have attraction for me. In his novel, Cannery Row, which features prostitutes and drunks as some of the main characters, Steinbeck's depiction of the humanity and worth of each is amazing. He is an astute observer of human nature.

4.

What CD is in your car player right now?

The Eagles Greatest Hits Volume 2. I like visiting the Hotel California.

5.

What do you listen to while sitting in traffic?

Brazilian Jazz. The reason these are great traffic songs are that they are very relaxing and soothing. It's like listening to really good classical music but is not as stuffy.

6.

If the World Wide Web could only have three sites, what should they be?

Online Speeches: www.americanrhetoric.com/speechbank.htm
The English Browser: www.lang.osaka-u.ac.jp/~krkvls/newsstand.html
Azusa Pacific University (of course): www.apu.edu

7.

What magazines are on your coffee table?

Popular Photography and Hot Rod I am an amateur (very amateur) photographer. [Editor's note-see the back cover of the Spring 2001 issue of APU Life .] It is a hobby, and I enjoy getting tips on improving. I have been a hot rodder since high school. I used to drag race at Lions Drag Strip in Long Beach (Don't look for it, it's no longer there). I have always had a desire to own a pulse-pounding, tire-smoking, muscle car. However, career and family responsibilities got in the way. I only need to convince my wife that this will make me a better person and I will get a classic car that needs tender loving care. Hot Rod keeps me posted on what I need to know when the time comes.

Ray is beginning his 17th year teaching communication at Azusa Pacific University.
