Chip Anderson Strengths Legacy Created
August 4, 2005

Edward "Chip" Anderson, Ph.D., passed away on July 5, 2005, following a valiant battle with cancer. A beloved professor in Azusa Pacific’s (APU) School of Education and Behavioral Studies (EDUCABS), he infused his teaching with an unquenchable appreciation for his students’ God-given strengths. This strengths perspective emerged from years of research into student retention, and a partnership with The Gallup Organization, which produced StrengthsQuest, a book that encourages individuals to identify and use strengths to live successful, productive, and happy lives. The university implemented this strengths inventory tool in all of its EDUCABS courses, and many other courses throughout the APU curriculum. APU faculty, staff, and students have taken inspiration from the strengths-finder inventory, as it focuses on what each individual excels at, and not what he or she is lacking.

A memorial fund, named the Chip Anderson Strengths Legacy, has been created to raise money to continue the work of strengths-based education. Any donations made to the fund should be payable to Azusa Pacific University and designated for the Center for Strengths-Based Education. Mail checks to: Center for Strengths-Based Education, Azusa Pacific University, PO Box 7000, Azusa, California, 91702.
