Most of us have heard the stories. You know, the ones told by students who have studied abroad in South Africa – stories of risk and exploration, challenge and discovery…and I’m not just talking about bungee jumping.
Each semester, dozens of APU students (including 12 Nursing students) are chosen to learn and live in one of the most beautiful countries on the planet. Through small classes taught by highly qualified local professors, intensive community development projects, educational tours, and a plethora of extracurricular activities, the South Africa Semester is higher education like you’ve never seen it before! For an insider’s look at the program, you have got to check out this video: http://www.apu.edu/southafrica/
You interested yet? Or at least a little intrigued? Here are some more reasons that the APU South Africa Semester may be a great fit for you:
§ Students of all majors are welcome to apply
§ Most of the courses offered fit general studies requirements that all students need in order to graduate
§ The program is not class specific - you can participate at any time, from the end of your freshman year to the end of your senior year
§ ALL OF YOUR FINANCIAL AID WILL TRANSFER – federal grants and loans, academic scholarships, all of it.
§ Program cost is the same as studying on the main campus in Azusa for a semester – and your plane ticket is included in that price!!
§ A study abroad semester is something that you can put on your resume – it will help you stand out as an applicant for jobs after graduation
§ South Africa has a rich history and dynamic culture that may very well change how you think about the world and your place in it.
§ Plus, when else will you have the opportunity to go shark cage diving or to go on a safari?
The Center for Global Learning and Engagement is now accepting applications for the Spring 2010 South Africa Semester. If you are interested in participating in the program, be sure to get your application in early! We will begin reviewing applications for next spring at the end of June. It looks to be a competitive semester (soccer fans, you know what I mean), and the program is filled on a first come, first served basis. That means the sooner you apply, the better your chances of going to South Africa!
The program application can be found at the following website: http://www.apu.edu/southafrica/apply/ . If you are interested in the program but would like more information, we’d love to help answer any questions you may have! Feel free to stop by the Center for Global Learning and Engagement (study abroad office) anytime during business hours (we are open from 8:30-4:30 Monday through Thursday and 8:30-4 on Fridays – all summer!). We are located in Magnolia Court in the Mods, just east of the baseball field. You may call (626) 815-2110 or email studyabroad@apu.edu with questions as well.
