Each semester, APU sends up to 14 junior and senior students to participate in a study abroad semester that is the first of its kind – a program built specifically for Music majors in the beautiful city of Heidelberg Germany. If chosen to participate in the program, you will have quite the semester ahead of you. Curious about what you are in for should you apply? Read on…
“In Heidelberg, you will find an inspiring, stimulating atmosphere in which to grow as a musician, with ample opportunities to learn and perform. One highlight of the program is the behind-the-scenes glimpse you will gain into the lives of professional musicians as you study with members of the Heidelberg Philharmonic and other local professionals and hear them making a contribution to the lively concert life Heidelberg and the surrounding areas have to offer, as well as performing in ensembles with talented and committed young German artists not unlike yourselves. Trips to other cultural centers in Germany and Austria with visits to the hometowns and residences of famous composers such as Mozart, Bach, Schumann, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Wagner, Strauss, and others will bring to life what you may have only read about in textbooks.” Program Director in Residence, Timothy Schwartz.
Sound like something you might want to try for? Read on for more reasons the Heidelberg Semester might be a great fit for you:
§ This program is specifically designed for music majors – which means unlike other study abroad opportunities, you don’t have to do a single thing to ensure your Heidelberg courses count towards your degree!
§ ALL OF YOUR FINANCIAL AID WILL TRANSFER – federal grants and loans, academic scholarships, all of it.
§ Program cost is nearly the same as studying on the main campus in Azusa for a semester – and your plane ticket is included in that price!!
§ A study abroad semester is something that you can put on your resume – it will help you stand out as an applicant for jobs after graduation, and will allow you to make valuable networking connections with professionals already working in your field
§ Germany has a rich history and dynamic culture that may very well change how you think about the world and your place in it. Not to mention the fact that it is located at the heart of Western Europe allowing you easy access to many other places while abroad!
