Understanding Your Financial Aid
Study Abroad Program Financial Aid Tiers
Tier A
Tier A allows APU students to apply their FULL financial aid package toward a study abroad semester. This package includes all federal, state, and institutional aid. (Scholarships that require on-campus participation will not be included in this package.) Programs eligible are the APU High Sierra Semester, Azusa Oxford Semester, Azusa South Africa Semester, and the Los Angeles Term.
Tier B
Tier B allows an APU student to apply partial institutional aid and all federal and state financial aid. “Partial institutional aid” refers to the APU academic scholarship (President’s, Dean’s, etc.). Programs eligible for this tier are all programs listed through www.Bestsemester.com (i.e. China Studies Program, Los Angeles Film Studies Program, etc.).
Tier C
Tier C allows an APU student to apply full federal and state financial aid. At this time, no institutional aid can be processed for this tier. Programs eligible for this tier are all other APU approved study abroad programs found on our website (i.e. AustraLearn, CIEE, Arcadia University programs, Boston Term, Lithuania Semester, etc.).
Financial Aid Types
Federal: Stafford Loans, Parent Loans, Pell Grant, etc.
State: Cal Grant, etc.
Institutional: Dean’s Scholarship, Sibling Discount, APU Cal Grant Scholarship, etc.
Any of the above listed options may ONLY be applied through the APU off-campus registration process. The registration form can be found at www.apu.edu/studyabroad/forms/. Taking a “Leave of Absence” will void any financial aid options listed above.
