John E. Hartley, Ph.D., is distinguished professor of Old Testament in the Graduate School of Theology. A founding member of the graduate school, he has served APU for 36 years. Dr. Hartley’s main goal is to teach students methods of interpretation so that they may become confident interpreters of Scripture. In his research, Prof. Hartley has done extensive work in word studies and in biblical theology. He has studied in Israel on five different occasions. His travels have taken him to Egypt, Jordan, Italy, and Greece. In addition to being widely published, he is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and Wesleyan Theological Society.
