Message from the Associate Dean
The Undergraduate Division of Religion and Philosophy serves the general
studies needs of Azusa Pacific University students by offering 18 units of
coursework in God’s Word and the Christian Response. We serve the needs of our
majors by focusing study toward a bachelor of arts degree in Theology,
Biblical Studies, Philosophy, Christian Ministries, and Youth Ministry, and
moreover, by directing the certificate of distinction programs in Philosophy, Theology,
and Biblical Studies. We augment majors in other academic disciplines by
providing minors in the above-mentioned fields, as well as minors in Ancient
Languages, Biblical Studies, Religion and Culture, Religion, and Sports Ministry. We also support the degree
completion program for professional adults with joint oversight of the
Bachelor of Science in Christian Leadership Program.
Our students learn the meaning of Jesus Christ and His message for His time and ours, while exploring the cultural heritage that preceded and shaped the world of Jesus and His earlier disciples. They learn to critically evaluate and apply what professional and popular voices in every era say about God, Christ, the cosmos, humanity, and ministry.
Our graduates are pastors, church and parachurch professionals, missionaries, educators, writers, administrators, organizers, and change agents.
We provide both resource and renewal for the Church through our unique and decisive vocation as an evangelical Christian school of theology with a Wesleyan heritage.
We look forward to your arrival in our classrooms and corridors. We welcome you to our offices. Furthermore, we invite you to join us in service-learning projects, academic conferences, and travels to holy lands. We are having the time of our lives. We believe that you will too.
Grace and Peace,
Kenneth L. Waters, Sr., Ph.D.
Associate Dean and Professor of New Testament
Undergraduate Division of Religion and Philosophy
