Message from the Associate Dean

Dear Friend,

Students who choose Azusa Pacific University (APU) for their undergraduate education join a community of scholars in faithful exploration of God’s Truth. Our ethos of Christian scholarship builds on the APU General Studies requirements, several courses of which students take in the Division of Religion and Philosophy. The experience of instruction in these courses is often pivotal for students in the development of a Christian outlook on their emerging vocations. Those who major in one of our disciplines find themselves amply equipped with knowledge and skills applicable to graduate education and ministry opportunities.

Faculty, committed to the academic and spiritual development of its undergraduate students, are:

  • Active scholars contributing regularly to our fields of research in church and academy
  • Accessible mentors who help students merge theory and practice
  • Wise counselors, who help our students weigh college and career decisions

Shapers of integrated study programs in ministry, Bible, theology, and philosophy In all these tasks we serve as “academic pastors,” shepherding our students in transition toward a more mature, thoughtful, and informed experience of the Christian faith. We look forward to sharing your university time with us, where both student and teacher grow in Christ.

God's Peace,
William Yarchin, Ph.D.
Associate Dean, Division of Religion and Philosophy
Professor of Biblical Studies
