Message from the Chair
To study the Bible and appreciate its rich, diverse message is a love and vocation that we all share at Azusa Pacific University. We seek to develop students who come to the Bible invested in learning how the people of God, throughout
biblical history, have responded in their own searches for security, stability, and clarity. The program in biblical studies at Azusa Pacific University launches students on a lifelong pursuit of learning
and of loving the Scriptures, which have sustained and enriched us for generations.
Through its Biblical Studies (major and minor), Greek (minor), and Biblical Languages (minor) programs, students are challenged to focus on the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, or a combination of both. There are also courses in biblical Greek and Hebrew that can be used to enhance students' study of the Bible. The biblical studies faculty share the university's Wesleyan commitment to values and a worldview which inspires us to fully engage and challenge our students. Through mentoring relationships, we seek to develop them as individuals, pray with them, and encourage them as they seek and find their own vocations. Our hope is to model a commitment to service that integrates our own confessional faith with the hopes and needs of our communities.
Please call the Division of Religion and Philosophy to set up a meeting to discuss our program.
Yours,
Kathryn J. S. Smith, Ph.D.
