Philosophy Certificate of Distinction

The Certificate of Distinction in Philosophy recognizes that a student has achieved a superior mastery of courses that provide a strong basis for graduate study in philosophy and in courses that demonstrate the student’s ability to think carefully within a specialized area of philosophy.

To receive the Certificate of Distinction in Philosophy, a student must complete the following courses with a grade-point average of 3.5 or better:

PHIL 325History of 19th and 20th Century Philosophy (formerly Contemporary Philosophy)3
PHIL 340Concepts of Human Nature*/***3
PHIL 380Formal Logic3
PHIL 440Epistemology3
PHIL 495Seminar in Philosophy3
Select one of the following:
PHIL 315History of Ancient Philosophy3
PHIL 316History of Medieval Philosophy3
Select one of the following:
PHIL 370Comparative Religions3
PHIL 410Philosophy of Religion**3
PHIL 430Philosophy of Science3

*Meets a General Studies core (or elective) requirement.
**Meets a General Studies elective requirement.
***Meets the Upper-Division Writing Intensive requirement.

All of the above courses have prerequisites.
