With the multitude of browser software options and varying preferences for computing platforms, Web developers do not have the ability to control the computing and browsing experience of those visiting www.apu.edu. The difference between the rendering of a webpage on one browser and its appearance on another can be alarming.

Because we seek effective communication, it is important that APU webpages are viewable and navigable, and present a quality image on the most commonly used browsers and computing platforms. The university website (www.apu.edu) will support browsers meeting the following criteria:

  • Browser software used by more than 1 percent of the visitors to APU's website
  • The primary browser applications produced in the last two years by the two leading browser makers (Microsoft and AOL/Time Warner/Netscape)
  • Browser software that conforms to fully accepted W3C standards
  • The leading browser application on current versions of the three leading software platforms (Windows, Macintosh, Linux)

All official publicly accessible websites, including those created by departments, are expected to conform to these standards.

Preferential Support
APU’s website will provide preferential support for the following Web browsers because of their popularity and compliance with accepted W3C standards. Preferential support signifies that special features and experiences may be designed but will only work in these browsers.

  • Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher for Windows 95/98/2000/Me/XP
  • Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher for Macintosh OS 9.x and OS X
  • Netscape Navigator 7.0 or higher
  • Mozilla for Linux/Unix

Full Support
Full support, which signifies that all standard features of APU's website are designed to render consistently on the above mentioned browsers, will be provided to the following browsers:

  • Safari/Konqueror 1.x
  • Internet Explorer 5.0 for Windows 95/98/2000/Me

Partial Support
Browsers that are partially supported may have trouble rendering some of www.apu.edu's advanced pages and features. Because of this, some text and graphics may degrade in appearance, but most content should be viewable. Navigation options should work or working alternative navigation will be provided. Visitors using one of the following browsers are encouraged to upgrade to newer browser software in order to maximize their experience with APU's website.

  • Netscape 3.x/4.x for Windows and Macintosh
  • Internet Explorer 4.x for Windows and Macintosh
  • MSNTV/WebTV

Unsupported Browsers
The following Web browsers are not supported by www.apu.edu:

  • Handheld browsers (for Palm and PocketPC)
  • Netscape 2.x or lower
  • Internet Explorer 2.x or lower
