What We Do
The main objective of The Writing Center is to help your students become better writers. Our multidisciplinary staff is trained to serve as informed readers who can assist writers in strengthening the global aspects of writing such as organization, flow, assignment fulfillment, and use of sources. Our consultants do not proofread papers, but rather engage writers in conversation about how to clearly and effectively communicate their thoughts in an academic manner.
If you have students whom you feel require additional help successfully fulfilling the writing requirements for your course, complete the Student Referral Form (PDF) and give a copy to the student to bring to their scheduled appointment. After the appointment, you will receive a summary of the appointment via email, and the student will be given a stamped and signed receipt with a detailed description of the topics covered during the writing consultation.
The Writing Center offers in-class orientations in order to provide you and your students with the most up-to-date information about the services we offer. One of our writing consultants will visit your classroom and give a 10-minute overview about The Writing Center, as well as information about scheduling appointments online. If you are interested in setting up an in-class orientation, contact The Writing Center at (626) 815-6000, Ext. 3141.
