The FAM Conference: Helping Families and Marriages in the Church and Culture

Posted: March 26, 2012

The HomeWord Center for Youth and Family at Azusa Pacific University presents a new conference focused on Helping Families and Marriage in the Church and Culture—the FAM Conference. Hosted by Jim Burns, Ph.D., president of HomeWord, executive director of the HomeWord Center for Youth and Family, and renowned author and speaker; and Doug Fields, senior director for the center, writer, speaker, pastor, and leadership mentor; the conference aims to equip church leaders and volunteers with practical tools on how to more effectively minister to families and the church.

When: May 10–12, 2012
Where: Azusa Pacific University, Felix Event Center
Cost: $199 per person; $99 per person for groups of five or more; $99 for students

The conference features some of the nation’s top speakers in church and family ministry, including George Barna, Jim Daly, Shaunti Feldhahn, Kara Powell, Albert Tate, and many others. In addition to main sessions, Deeper Learning Tracks allow attendees to focus on their area of ministry:

  • Children’s Ministry
  • Youth Ministry
  • Marriage Ministry
  • Women’s Ministry
  • Men’s Ministry
  • Family Ministry
  • Urban Family Ministry
  • Parenting Track (for Parents)

The event was inspired by the belief that a major purpose of the church is to mentor parents, so parents can mentor their children, and the legacy of faith can continue to the next generation. “Church ministries are often silos and don’t speak to each other, yet they can all be integrated because of the family,” said Burns. “How people work in children’s ministry or youth ministry or marriage ministry can affect the family in a positive way. We hope this conference will be the beginning of a more integrated family ministry movement.”
