Azusa Pacific's Haggard Graduate School of Theology (HGST) celebrated its 25th anniversary on March 11, as faculty, staff, students, and alumni gathered to reflect God’s work in the school's past, present, and future.

The day-long celebration highlighted special guests such as the Korean Fellowship Group, current Kern scholars, and members of the faculty, who spoke on topics regarding scholarship and community.

“I had no idea how I would end up at APU, but my wife just knew that this was where I was meant to be,” said Kern scholar Jason Hewitt. “During my first day here, I knew immediately that this was exactly where God wanted me.”

During a luncheon in the Felix Event Center, the school recognized the achievements of several alumni. Guests and participants also honored Les Blank, Ph.D., the first dean of the Haggard School of Theology, who was unable to attend.

Other events throughout the day included a book signing featuring several HGST faculty and alumni authors. Guests also had the opportunity to tour the Duke Academic Complex which has housed HGST and the James L. Stamps Theological Library since 2003.

“Being a young alumna, it was humbling to see what was born out of the school and the impact that these former students have made,” said HGST alumna Sheree Black '02, M.A. ’06. “It was truly an honor to hear what they [alumni] have been doing and how they have married the training they received at HGST with the issues in our world.”
