Teachers Are Heroes Award Commemorates Excellence in Education
Few professions are focused on impacting the lives of children. Even fewer individuals are willing to take on such a responsibility. Teachers dedicate their careers to the mental and emotional development of their students. It is for this devotion that they are recognized as heroes.
On June 7, Azusa Pacific University’s San Diego Regional Center, San Diego County Office of Education, and KSON Radio partnered for the sixth year to honor educators at the Teachers are Heroes awards ceremony. Twelve teachers were celebrated by an audience of more than 350 family, friends, students, and community representatives. Cosponsored by Wendy’s restaurant and Legoland California, where the ceremony was held, the Teachers Are Heroes award proudly recognizes the critical role teachers play in educating future leaders.
“It is through the important relationships that teachers and parents nurture in children that education thrives and succeeds,” said Helen Easterling Williams, Ed.D., dean of APU’s School of Education.
Staff and faculty from APU’s School of Education and San Diego Regional Center, KSON radio staff, and sponsors spoke about the irreplaceable passion and skill that teachers contribute to the progression of education. Nominated by parents, colleagues, students, and administration, these 12 recipients represented the highest level of excellence in the San Diego County school districts.
