Celebrating the Fourth

by Nicole Chin '08

Maybe you’ve seen the booths of fireworks around or the Stars and Stripes dancing in the breeze. Either way you know it’s time for Fourth of July! APU will be closed on this national holiday, commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

Many faculty and staff members are looking forward to the long weekend and the impending celebrations. The Fourth of July holiday gives many staff and faculty members the chance to spend extra time with their families. “I’m going to Santa Cruz to camp with my family,” said Amy Martens ’05 from the Student Post Office.

Campus Pastor, James “Woody” Morwood plans on running a 5K in the morning with Claremont residents before watching the city’s parade. “My daughter’s going to be on the softball float,” said Morwood. A barbecue with friends and family is planned for the afternoon.

Brad Nations ‘08, from Central Receiving, has a friend visiting from Utah and plans to just hang out and “kick back.” Kigen Teimuge ’07 and Kyle Asher from Facilities Management plan on watching fireworks at Venice Beach.
