Godspell
APU's drama ministry team, consisting of 21 talented performers, will be featuring Godspell for various audiences throughout the United States. Directed by Brian Mercer, general manager and director of the drama ministry team, Godspell is a rock musical based on the Gospel of Matthew that has moved audiences of all kinds for more than 30 years.
Mercer will direct Godspell for the sixth time and brings a new creativity to the greatest story ever told. This year’s production will differ from previous years, as the set changes from a nightclub to a moving sale. Even with a locale change, the story remains the same: the life of Christ portrayed in a musical.
Featured in this production is a top-notch cast of APU Theatre Arts’ finest performers along with a live rhythm section. The lively and energetic ministry team will take this play to churches as a witness and testimony. As the cast sets out for their tour, they are preparing to live out of two vans, bringing with them their a complete sound set, lights, costumes, back drops, set pieces, and much more.
The team performed 4 times at APU and will perform 36 times at local churches, as well as around the states. Some of the destinations include Arizona, Connecticut, North Carolina over Easter Break, and the East Coast in June for 12 days. This team is scheduled to begin the tour in October, continuing until June. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to www.apu.edu/theatre, or call (626) 815-5035.
