APU Presents Adventures in Odyssey Christmas Show

Each day in homes across America, 1.2 million families tune into Adventures in Odyssey, a Christian radio show airing for more than 25 years. This holiday season, that magic comes to life on stage when Azusa Pacific Theater presents Adventures in Odyssey Christmas Live, featuring cast members from the beloved broadcast in a one-of-a-kind event.

Created in 1987 by Focus on the Family, the half–hour radio show centers on the small Midwest town of Odyssey and combines faith lessons with entertaining characters and stories. APU’s Department of Theater Arts partners with the show’s co-creator Phil Lollar, and his touring group, Fort Blanket Revue, to create this Christmas special. Working alongside Odyssey cast members, including Katie Leigh (voice of Connie), Will Ryan (voice of Eugene), and Andre Stojka (voice of Mr. Whitaker), APU theater will help produce the broadcast. The event includes sound effects, live music, content from original episodes, and the introduction of a new Christmas program.

“The Christmas show features fun stories and great songs, and a chance to meet some favorite Adventures in Odyssey characters while enjoying the spirit of the season,” said Lollar.

“Like many, I grew up listening the Adventures in Odyssey, and I’m so excited for the opportunity to see the show’s inner workings on stage at APU,” said Matthew Gilmore, marketing manager and art director for the theater program.

The last Odyssey live event, celebrating its 25th anniversary, took place in Texas in 2012 and drew a crowd of 4,000 from 40 states. By contrast, the APU event, taking place in the Warehouse Theater, provides an intimate venue where audience members can truly feel close to the action and a part of the show.

Show times are Friday, December 5, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, December 6, at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $25 each. To purchase them, visit the Felix Event Center Box Office, call (626) 815-5494, or visit online ticket purchase.
