A Dream Come True
The Azusa Adult School and Sierra Continuation High School held their 2002 graduations at APU’s Munson Chapel on June 18.
Sierra is a school for at-risk students, grades 10-12. The Azusa Adult School, which works closely with Sierra, offers a variety of courses to help adults earn their diploma or GED.
“Azusa Adult School and Sierra graduates are particularly important because they had to travel an extra hard road to graduate," said Dick Stanford, Azusa city councilman. "For a lot of these people, getting out of high school is like an APU student graduating from college--it’s a big deal,”
The graduations, usually held in the Azusa city auditorium, were held at APU for the first time. “It’s a marvelous community service. APU is supporting the city by providing facilities,” said Stanford.
These graduations are not the last to held at APU. The Felix Event Center will be the site of Azusa and Gladstone High Schools' graduations on June 20 at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively.
