APU Hosts Teacher Interview Day
On May 7, Azusa Pacific University hosted a teacher interview day in the Felix Event Center on West Campus. Coordinated by the Career Center, this event allows districts from around Southern California to interview current students and alumni for teaching positions.
From its conception in the mid-90s, this event has grown from 31 districts participating to more than 80. Approximately 1,700 interviews were conducted at the school.
All current credential program students were invited as well as graduates from 2000 and 2001. APU’s website advertised to additional candidates. While there were 244 people registered for the program, about 300 attended the event.
The event proved to be successful for both the districts and the students. Cheryl Bonner ‘82, principal of Cullen Elementary School in Glendora, said that one-third of her staff are APU alumni. The statistics are about the same for other schools as well. “They’re great teachers! They’re outstanding,” said Bonner.
