Winter Wonderland
Let it snow, snow, snow! The community of Azusa celebrated the fourth annual Winter Family Fiesta and Holiday Boutique December 7, 2002 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on the Azusa City Hall lawn The sponsors of this year’s event, City of Azusa Recreation and Family Services Department, made it possible for all ages to have a good time. Other event sponsors included APU, Knights of Columbus, Azusa Light and Water, Pepsi Cola, Azusa Youth Programs, Azusa Department of Economic Development, and the Azusa Police Officers Association.
The free event featured rock climbing, snow, sled rides, horse-drawn carriage rides, live music, food, bounce houses, craft tables for children, and a holiday boutique.
“The kids love it,” said Yolanda Arroyo, an Azusa resident. “We came for the first time last year and I knew we’d be back this year.”
What started out as an APU student-led initiative four years ago has blossomed into a huge community event. Approximately 60 APU students volunteered their time to make this year’s fiesta a success. From shoveling snow to playing with children, the volunteers served the community with smiles. “The kids are adorable,” said Esther Wieja, ASB international senator. “They are just so excited to be our friends.”
“This is so cool,” said 11-year-old Jessica Hermosillo, who just had her first encounter with snow. “I’m going to play here all day!”
