Alumni: Nick Black (‘18), Graphic Design

What was the most meaningful experience you had at APU?

“I had a lot of meaningful experiences at APU. If I’m picking an experience from design, it would most definitely be my senior show titled “She Is” that was held behind Darling Library. That was one of the first times I was able to see something I created impact someone else on a deep level, and thankfully enough I’m still receiving asks over the branded merchandise.”

If you could give a word of advice to future and current students, what would it be?

“I’d recommend designing as much as you can away from rules and proper practices. You will have plenty of coursework and supervisors that will ask you to create practical designs, but if you want to find your design “voice” more distinctively, you’ll need to do it with less boundaries and a higher volume.”

How has your Christian-based college education impacted your career?

“It has taught me how to design, while simultaneously informing me on the accuracy of my narrative through my designs.”
