Biography

Carol A. Leung, Ph.D., LCSW, assistant professor of social work, is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). Prior to arriving at APU, she worked as a psychotherapist at Flushing Hospital Outpatient Mental Health Clinic in New York City, helping immigrant and refugee populations and clients with co-occurring disorders and other behavioral health issues. Most recently she was a lead therapist at Melrose Recovery Center, helping and empowering individuals to recover from addictions. Her research interests broadly center around mental health—specifically, understanding predictive factors associated with suicidal behaviors. Leung has seven articles published in refereed journals, and five other publications in clinical training guides and book chapters on topics related to mental health interventions, multicultural competencies, and translinguistic skills in clinical practice.
