Social Work Students Participate in “Opioid Crisis: An Interprofessional Response"

Dr. Michael Sequeira discusses the medical profession's response to Opioid use

The School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences sponsored an event on October 4, 2019 to bring together students from various APU allied professions, including social work, in order to better understand the role and responsibilities of each discipline in working together with clients who struggle with Opioid addiction.

One of the two keynote speakers, Dr. Michael Sequeira, spoke about the medical profession’s response to Opioid use, including the use of Narcan. Speaker Guy Gomez, with the Drug Enforcement Administration, stated that 80 percent of heroin users in America start with an opioid.
