Biography

Rukshan Fernando, Ph.D., believes in APU’s mission and vision in which outstanding faculty, staff, and administrators help shape students in their academic, professional, and spiritual capacities to make a significant difference in business and the workplace. One of his main passions is to empower APU’s diverse student body to grow in their capacity to facilitate wholeness in the world.

Fernando’s research and teaching expertise is in the arenas of leadership identity, higher education administration, and inclusive excellence, and he has secured research grants related to the issues of leadership, poverty, diversity, and sustainability. He is active in the local community, including as a governing board member of the Glendora Unified School District, and has been a consultant to nongovernmental organizations in Sri Lanka, Ecuador, and Nigeria. His work has also afforded him the opportunity to be a technical expert for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and the United States Department of the Treasury. He was selected to be a participant in Harvard University’s Management Development Program and the WASC Senior College and University Commission’s Assessment Leadership Academy.

He and his wife have two children and enjoy traveling and the outdoors.
