Race, Grace, and the Role of White Evangelicals in Faith Based Institutions

Alexander Jun, PhD, Professor, Department of Higher Education, BAS

Christian higher education ought to examine emerging research that further explores systemic and structural forms of privilege and power that can create hostile educational environments for students, staff, and faculty from non-dominant underrepresented populations at dominantly White institutions. The purpose of this session is to contribute to this new research by exploring the experiences, awareness, and engagement of White evangelical administrators at Christian colleges who recognize racial injustices and have demonstrated efforts toward reconciliation.  Dr. Jun will present findings from interviews with individuals who actively chose to engage in race related advocacy at their faith-based institutions.  The intent is to understand White Christian administrators’ awareness of and efforts toward racial reconciliation and anti-racism.
