One of the most beloved large choral/orchestral works, A German Requiem, Op. 45 by Johannes Brahms powerfully proclaims the Holy Scriptures moving from sorrow turned to joy.
With a partial premier in 1867, a six-movement premier in 1868, and a premier of all seven movements in 1869, the Masterworks Chorale and Symphony Orchestra celebrate the 150th anniversary of the full performance of this monumental work, joined by Angela Blasi, soprano and Ryan Reithmeier, baritone.
The program begins with the West Coast premiere of Joseph Klein's Against the gusts of blank repose, a threshold that persists.
