ANALYTICAL THEOLOGY & THE PROJECT OF CHRISTIAN PHILOSOPHY

Over the past decade, there has been a tremendous increase in conversation and collaboration between philosophers and theologians, resulting in the emergence of a new academic field--analytic theology.  For some, this has been welcomed as an exciting new development in Christian theology; for others it has sparked concern and resistance. This talk will examine the relationship between analytic theology and the project of Christian philosophy with an eye to addressing some of the more pressing concerns about this blossoming new field.

PROTEST, WORSHIP, AND THE DEFORMATION OF PRAYER

Is it okay to get angry with God, and to protest God's management of the world? Surprisingly, there is strong evidence in scripture that the answer is "yes".  But how can it be okay to get angry with someone we always ought to worship?  How can it make sense to protest the actions of someone who is perfectly rational and perfectly good?  This talk explores these pressing philosophical questions.

Speaker: Michael Rea, Ph.D.

Michael Rea is Rev. John A. O’Brien Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Center for Philosophy of Religion at the University of Notre Dame. His research focuses primarily on  topics in metaphysics, philosophy of religion, and analytic theology.
