Dean's Desk (May 2017)
By Jennifer Walsh
Graduation weekend was full of celebration. More than 1,500 APU students participated in undergraduate and commencement ceremonies, including the nearly 200 who graduated from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with Dean's List recognition. This is no small feat as merely graduating with a degree from CLAS can be a daunting task. As our newest alumni can attest, walking across the Commencement stage means students have had to complete rigorous coursework while balancing the many demands of campus life, often while working part- or full-time on the side. That's why each and every graduate is deserving of a hearty "Congratulations!"
As you'll see in this month's CLAS Connect, all of this hard work is definitely worth the effort. Featured alumna Laura Hock '05 (political science, business administration) capitalized on her undergraduate preparation at law school, a clerkship, and in her current position as an attorney for Littler Mendelson, P.C. Additionally, our featured student, Mekenna Brown, is poised to do great things after she graduates next year. With a double major in math and honors humanities, Mekenna has worked closely with faculty member Dr. Edwin Ding and plans to become a math teacher herself after graduating next year.
No matter how long it's been since you walked across the Commencement stage, congratulations! We are proud to have you as a part of our alumni family.
With warm regards,
Jennifer E. Walsh, Ph.D.
Dean, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
