About the Program

Why This Major Is Relevant

We live in an increasingly diverse, polarized, and complex society. Our lives are constantly touched and challenged by the issues that arise from this complexity—issues like poverty, globalization, and war. Artists play a critical role in helping others process and deal with societal and personal issues. Art graduates challenge others to rise above the day-to-day and deal with matters of conscience, beauty, and the soul, and in the process, make an impact on the very society they seek to reflect.

Gain In-depth Learning Experiences

APU’s art major is set apart by its intentional focus on the integration of, and tension between, faith and art. As explorers of the human soul, Christians must be able to clearly define their role in society as artists and citizens. The art major provides a context for growth as a whole person, graduating students who are both technically adept and grounded in their beliefs.

Computer Requirement

All majors in the Department of Art and Design are required to have a laptop computer with premium Adobe Suite or equivalent. It is recommended that graphic design majors also have Adobe Typekit.
