Admission Requirements for the B.A. in Theater Arts

Acceptance to the university guarantees admission to the B.A. in Theater Arts program.

Audition Requirements for the BFA in Acting for the Stage and Screen

Students interested in being considered for admission to the BFA in Acting for the Stage and Screen must indicate their desire on their application to the university. Admission to the university does not guarantee admission into the BFA. Applicants must audition to be accepted into the acting degree. Transfer students must audition as well. Applicants for scholarships are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA. If you are ineligible for FAFSA, but would still like to be considered for the scholarship, please contact us at recruittheater@apu.edu.

BFA Audition and Talent Scholarship Requirements

  • Two contrasting monologues (1–2 minutes per monologue)
  • 16 bars of a song (Sing a capella or bring a recorded accompanist.)
  • Complete the audition form
  • Bring a headshot and a resume

BFA Audition Dates for Students Entering Fall 2018

October 20, 2017, 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
November 4, 2017 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
January 20, 2018, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
January 26, 2018, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
January 27, 2018, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Auditions will be held in the Black Box Theater, located on APU’s West Campus at 701 E. Foothill Blvd., Azusa, CA 91702. Please schedule an audition appointment by contacting Kirsten Humer at (626) 815-6000, Ext. 5865 or khumer@apu.edu.

Video Audition and CMA Scholarship Requirements

If you cannot attend a campus audition on the dates listed above, you may submit the following online. Video submissions are due by January 27, 2018. Video auditions are viewed by faculty for entrance into the BFA in Acting for Stage and Screen degree.

  • Complete the audition form through SlideRoom
  • Upload two contrasting monologues (1–2 minutes per monologue)
  • 16 bars of a song (You may sing a cappella.)
  • Upload headshot and resume on SlideRoom

All candidates will be informed of their CMA Scholarship award and acceptance into the program after the January 27, 2018 auditions.

The deadline for the APU application, FAFSA forms, and the APU Theater Arts audition form is December 31, 2017.
