Biography

Mia Long Anderson, Ph.D., is the graduate program director of the M.A. in Strategic Communication program and an associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Azusa Pacific, where she teaches public relations and strategic communication courses.

Her research interests include image repair in sports, African American images in the media, and the intersection of sports, communication and race. Her scholarship has been presented at annual meetings of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the International Association for Communication and Sport, the International Communication Association, and the National Communication Association. Her work has been published in Communication Teacher, the Journal of African American Studies, the Journal of Contemporary Athletics, and the Journal of Sports Media.

Anderson is a proponent of cultural competence and a student of diversity, having served on the diversity committees of her previous institutions. She is also an alumna of the Southern Regional Education Board Doctoral Scholars Program, a program designed to increase the number of minority faculty, and frequently attends at the program’s annual Compact for Faculty Diversity/Institute on Teaching and Mentoring.
