Miles McPherson, M.Div.
Miles McPherson, M.Div., is senior pastor of the Rock Church in San Diego, California. Before founding the Rock Church, McPherson spent four years in the NFL playing defensive back for the Chargers (1982-85), during which time he developed a cocaine addiction. A weekend-long drug binge in his second season led him to make a life-changing decision—he called out to Jesus Christ for help, accepted Him, and stopped doing drugs in one day.
McPherson went on to dedicate his life to serving Christ through the Church, working as a youth pastor for Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego and earning a Master of Divinity degree from Azusa Pacific in 1991.
In 2000, he felt called by God to start the Rock Church, which became one of the nation’s largest churches; currently more than 18,000 people attend the Rock’s 21 Sunday services at one of its four campuses, 30 microsites, and online.
McPherson continues to actively seek ways to support churches and ministries, most recently founding Do Something Church, an organization dedicated to equipping churches to transform the world by successfully meeting their community’s needs through innovative outreach strategies. He is also the author of several books, including Do Something: Make Your Life Count and God in the Mirror: Discovering Who You Were Created to Be.
