How many commuter students attend APU?

One-third of our undergraduate student population are commuters and we also serve all of the graduate and professional students studying at APU’s main campus in Azusa.

What benefits and services are there for commuter students?

We provide a variety of commuter services including printing, a free snack and coffee each day, office supplies, access to microwaves and a refrigerator, commuter lockers, and commuter programming and events.

If I am a graduate and professional student am I allowed to use these services?

Yes! All undergraduate and graduate commuter students are welcome to use these resources and attend commuter-specific events.

Is there a place specifically for commuter students on campus?

The Cougar Dome, which is our Student Union on campus, is where our Commuter Life Services office is located. We like to tell our commuters that “the Dome is their home.”

Where can I put my stuff?

In our East or West Campus lockers! Find sign-up information on the Commuter Lockers page. Lockers are free, assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and are reassigned at the beginning of every semester.

How do I request to live off-campus and commute to APU?

APU students are required to live on campus their first and second year as an APU student. You may request for Campus Housing Exemption if you fall under the following categories:

  • If you are incoming freshman (or transfer freshman or sophomore) and you live with your parent(s) locally
  • Are over 21
  • Are married
  • Have part-time status
  • Have other special circumstances that present an obstacle to campus residency

You must submit a Request for Campus Housing Exemption in order to be considered to be exempt from the housing requirement. If desired, you may obtain a physical copy of this form from your admissions counselor in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

How can I eat on campus without a student meal plan?

You can purchase Cougar Bucks, which are funds available on your APU ID card that can be spent on campus––similar to a prepaid debit card. To add money to your Cougar Bucks account, access your CashNet account online, click on “Make Payment,” and then click “Deposit Funds to your Cougar Bucks Account.” Once your transaction is complete, your Cougar Bucks are immediately available to spend.

Where do I park?

As a commuter student you can park in Main Lot A on East Campus as well as Lot H on West Campus. View the map of parking locations on both campuses. You may also utilize the trolley service to go between campuses. Download the APU mobile app in order to utilize the Trolley Tracker.

What options are there for public transportation?

Students commuting from the Los Angeles area can take public transportation to Azusa Pacific University using the Metro Gold Line, disembarking at the APU/Citrus College Station, located on Citrus Avenue and within walking distance of APU’s East and West campuses. The APU/Citrus College Station is the final stop on the line, connecting Azusa to Pasadena and downtown Los Angeles.

Discount TAP cards are available for students. The regular fare for a one-way trip is $1.75.

Other public transportation options for getting to APU include the bus (Foothill Transit) and the Metrolink train.

Are there refrigerators and microwaves that I can use?

Yes, there is a refrigerator and two microwaves located in the Cougar Dome on East Campus. There are also microwaves located in the Heritage Cafe on West Campus.
