Student Housing Update (03-12-20)

APU Residential Students,

The university is suspending in-person classes and utilizing Canvas for the remainder of the semester, beginning Monday, March 16. In addition, the university will cancel, modify, or postpone all nonessential events and gatherings. We encourage you to continue to find the most recent university updates by visiting www.apu.edu/covid-19.

Although classes will not meet in person, university living areas will remain open and dining services will be available and supported through the end of the academic year. We will continue to assess this decision in light of unfolding developments and guidance from public health agencies. Our general living area checkout date of Sunday, May 3, remains unchanged at this time. However, we do realize that with classes moving to Canvas or other distance-learning platforms, you may wish to return home to finish out the semester. We understand this may be a decision you and your family may make, and we are here to support you in any event.

Please know that your current housing assignment and its associated costs will remain intact whether you choose to utilize it or not. Living area staff will continue to offer support and guidance. All policies pertaining to living area management and student conduct will remain in effect during this time.

Important for you to know:

  • If you decide to check out early, simply clean your room/space and return your key in the drop slot to the left of our office door (envelopes will be found at the slot). RAs will not be available for inspections, however, a university representative will assess room condition after you leave.
  • It will be necessary to modify our process to obtain housing for next year and those plans are forthcoming. Please continue to monitor your apu email and our webpage for any information regarding that process. You do not need to come into the office next week as originally advertised.
  • So that we can know how best to support those students who are here, complete the Iā€™m staying on campus form if you plan to continue to reside on campus. So that we can adequately plan and keep current, please submit this no later than March 20.

Last, we realize that this may be a lot to process in the midst of so many significant changes. Therefore, we thank you in advance for your patience and grace as we navigate this season together.

Blessings,

The Residence Life Team
