Welcome Back. I am so pleased to welcome each of you to the Fall 2020 semester! Although we are gathering in ways we did not expect at this time last year, we continue to prepare for a unique and impactful semester of Christ-centered academic excellence.
APU Community Survey. This summer, faculty, staff, and students were asked to participate in a survey about the shift to remote learning/work as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. We were fortunate to receive responses from 20% of students, 42% of faculty, and 61% of staff. The President’s Office completed a thorough analysis and compiled a summary for your review.
Our findings will help us learn from our successes and challenges in this unprecedented time and apply those lessons to our return this fall. Key takeaways include:
- Greater than 90% satisfaction/agreement with the decisions made by APU in response to state and national governmental and public health guidelines
- Greater than 75% satisfaction with support provided for remote learning
- Appreciation for communications from the President and Provost’s office with a clear desire to have a more integrated strategic communications strategy that includes additional input from constituencies
- Adaptability of faculty and students to transition to remote learning, enabling successful completion of learning objectives
- Strong desire from the community to maintain remote learning experience for the Fall 2020 semester
Please review the survey summary, which includes context, survey results, and emerging strategies. The survey can be accessed with your apu.edu email account.
As I reflect on the survey data, I am blessed by the inspiring dedication, resilience, understanding, and flexibility of our entire APU Community. I am so appreciative of the efforts from faculty, staff, and students to come together during these unique times to prioritize meaningful engagement, transformational faith integration and spiritual development, and to promote academic growth and faith maturity.
A New Concept: The President’s Roundtable. In order to provide a space for increased input to University leadership on important issues during these challenging times, we are introducing a new concept this fall: The President’s Roundtable. This virtual venue will enable me to engage with students on a wide variety of topics of interest. These discussions will further our mutual understanding of APU culture and practice and stimulate continued growth and development of APU as a premier Christian University consistent with the new Strategic Plan. They may also be a source of new ideas for addressing the challenges in offering Christ-centered academic excellence in our current culture and times. Each virtual session will have a maximum of 16 individuals. We will be working with the Student Government and the Graduate and Professional Student Input Council in order to develop a list of topics of interest.
Upcoming Event. I am excited to begin another academic year by engaging with our Community. An additional event to look forward to early this Fall:
