Biography

Debra Clausen enjoys preparing nurse practitioner students to serve the community in their future role as nurse practitioners. For the past 22 years, Debra has focused on diabetes education and management in her work as a nurse practitioner. As a new faculty member, she brings the challenging, yet positive diabetes concepts to her students in the classroom. Students need support in learning a new method of nursing practice, just as a person with a new diabetes diagnosis needs support. Providing nursing education to nurse practitioner students gives Debra an opportunity to not only teach the principles and clinical performance of advanced nursing practice, but to interject her practice experiences in the classroom. This style enhances learning by sustaining the interest of students.
