Azusa, Calif. — Ministry is an integral part of the foundation of Azusa Pacific University. In order to support students as they pursue vocational ministry, APU's Kern Center for Vocational Ministry (KCVM) awards scholarships to students with goals of serving in full-time vocational ministry who are studying Biblical Studies, Christian Ministries, Theology, or Youth Ministry. This year, the scholarship review board had the difficult task of choosing from 27 qualified candidates. The following recipients were selected to receive scholarships for the 2010-11 school year:

  • Ryan Forsell – Sophomore, Youth Ministry, Cave Creek, AZ resident
  • James Hansen – Freshman, Youth Ministry, Fontana, CA resident
  • Josh Lopez – Senior, Theology, Ontario, CA resident
  • Brenton Shelkey – Senior, Biblical Studies, Long Beach, CA resident
  • Karissa Soeter – Junior, Christian Ministries, Norco, CA resident
  • Spencer Trefzger – Junior, Biblical Studies, Oswego, OR resident
  • Andrew Zimmerman – Junior, Biblical Studies, Newbury Park, CA resident

The KCVM assists students who are preparing to be vocational pastors. In addition to financial aid, the Kern Center assigns each student a Pastor-Mentor to help guide them in their academic and spiritual journey. KCVM also offers APU students question answering sessions, church-site internships, prayer support and peer community development.
