AZUSA, Calif. — Acting Dean Russell Duke, Ph.D., announced at the C.P. Haggard Graduate School of Theology commissioning service on May 9, 2010 the addition of a new Doctor of Ministry Korean Program at the Los Angeles Regional Center, which will commence fall of 2010.

"This program has long been the dream of the Korean community and the desire of the school of Theology," said Duke.

The school also announced Daniel J. Newman, Ph.D., as the director for the new program, effective June 1. Prior to this he has been serving as the director of the Master's Asian Program. With his promotion, a nation-wide search is underway to fill his vacated post.

"In the best of times, ministry is a daunting charge. Adding variables of immigrant life, cultural discord, and intergenerational misunderstanding to the ministry setting results in unimagined challenges. The faithful endurance of our Korean pastors is amazing. It is my commitment to provide an opportunity for reflection, retooling, and renewal that will empower them for continued years of effective service," said Newman.

Newman is also senior pastor at Los Angeles Ye-Bon Church, a position held since 2002. His interests include intercultural studies and missions, with a specific focus on the Korean people. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, School of World Missions; an M.A. in Theology from the Christian Theological Seminary Divinity School in Seoul, Korea; and a B.A. in Religion, Missions Emphasis, from Azusa Pacific University.
