Azusa Pacific University launches a new Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree completion program at the Inland Empire and Murrieta regional campuses beginning fall 2016. This 48-unit bachelor’s completion program is designed for transfer students with 30 units and an interest in gaining hands-on field experience in the criminal justice system. The program is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Students earning APU’s criminal justice degree are taught by professional faculty mentors who apply a Christian worldview to curriculum and practice and build the groundwork for a meaningful career in the criminal justice system. The program allows students who began a program of study to finish their degree at APU by completing the required program units and general education units, for a total of 120 units. At APU’s regional campuses, transfer students benefit from the convenience of a local learning environment and a supportive, Christ-centered community.

Each regional location upholds and offers the same academic expectations and faculty mentorship experiences as the traditional program for four-year undergraduate students. APU’s criminal justice degree equips students to advance police practices improve prison, jail, and parole policies; and ultimately make society safer. Students experience learning opportunities in real-world contexts by touring prisons; volunteering with at-risk youth; interning with police departments, courts, and law offices; and hearing from professionals in the field.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects job growth from now until 2022 in criminal justice occupations, such as information security analysts, paralegals and legal assistants, private detectives and investigators, security guards and gaming surveillance officers, and criminal justice and law enforcement teachers. With the societal changes to the criminal justice system, this is an exciting time to study criminal justice where leaders are needed in all areas of the field.
