Azusa Pacific University hosts a dedication of its remodeled San Diego Regional Campus (SDRC), located at 5353 Mission Center Rd., in San Diego, on Wed., Jan. 17, at 6 p.m. The nearly 20,000-square-foot-expansion includes a state-of-the-art nursing facility featuring high-tech, multi-functioning mannequins along with 20 offices, 4 classrooms, and a study lounge.

To provide the latest hands-on training for it’s more than 250 nursing students, the SDRC now boasts 8 exam rooms, a skills lab, a health assessment lab, and debrief rooms. Nursing students will work with a mannequin similar to those the military uses to train combat medics in the treatment of traumatic injuries and a mannequin that serves as a fully functioning birth simulator.

The majority of SDRC graduates make a difference in their local community through their work in the helping professions: clinical psychology, criminal justice, educational counseling, nursing, pastoral studies, special education, and teaching. The SDRC also serves the San Diego community by holding annual blood drives, professional development training, a Girl Scout medical badge event, participating in the Ovarian Cancer Walk and NAMI Mental Health Walk, and sponsoring Teachers are Heroes (honoring local teachers) and the CARE Awards (honoring local nurses).

“This remodel and expansion will enable the San Diego Regional Campus to provide even greater educational opportunities and resources for our students,” said Jennifer Jordan, director. “Our students will thrive in this beautiful space while continuing to benefit from small class sizes and caring and accomplished faculty.”

The San Diego County Regional Campus, a direct extension of APU’s main campus in Azusa, offers undergraduate degree completion programs as well as a wide variety of master’s degrees and credential programs. Classes run from 8 a.m.- 10 p.m., Mon.-Thurs. with some Friday and Saturday classes. Courses are taught by both full-time faculty and local adjunct professors. Staff and faculty strive to provide quality, professional service while maintaining an open, relaxed, and personal atmosphere.
