Azusa middle school girls are getting fit through Girls on the Move, a five-week exercise class designed by Azusa Pacific University in collaboration with Azusa’s Parks and Recreation Department that encourages 6th to 8th grade girls to exercise regularly and incorporate healthy eating habits into their daily lives. Taught by an APU student with guest instructors from APU’s Department of Exercise and Sport Science, the class focuses on core strengthening, Pilates, calisthenics, and hip hop dance.

The pilot session began Tuesday, October 20, with eight participants. At a time when obesity rates among youth are growing and physical fitness is on a downfall, this program aims to help young women start healthy habits early.
