Biography

Hailed by the New York Times for her “deeply moving” interpretation of Cio Cio San in Madama Butterfly, soprano Angela Maria Blasi, MA (Cand), has performed with the most prestigious opera companies and festivals in the world, including the Bavarian State Opera, Vienna Staatsoper, Salzburg Festival, Covent Garden, La Scala Milan, Brussels La Monnaie, Maggio Musicale Firenze, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro Colón, L.A. Opera, Washington National Opera, NYC Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera. Impeccable musicianship and phrasing, a seamless vocal technique, and an engaging stage presence are some of the trademarks of her highly acclaimed performances.

Blasi, a 2004 Grammy nominee for Best Vocal Performance, has credits including the La Boheme movie for ERATO, with Maestro James Conlon and Jose Carreras as Rodolfo; the Philips DVD of Mozart's Il Re Pastore with Sir Neville Marriner; Mahler’s 8th Symphony with Maestro Giuseppe Sinopoli for DGG; Mozart Requiem, Brahms Requiem and Mahler’s 4th Symphony with Sir Colin Davis; Bach and Mozart for Teldec with Nikolaus Harnoncourt; as well as numerous recordings with Maestro Zubin Mehta and the Bavarian State Orchestra.

Blasi was a 1982 MET Opera National Finalist, carries the title of Bavarian Kammersaengerin, and has won numerous press and audience awards for her performances in Europe. She relocated to the U.S. in 2006 to teach privately and join CAMI Vocal. She quickly advanced to VP and Artist Manager, while maintaining a private vocal studio in New York. Fluent in three languages and knowledgeable in the operatic and concert repertoire, Blasi brings a unique and valuable perspective to her students with her passion for singing, knowledge of the physical, vocal, and emotional demands of an operatic career, and a keen understanding of the artistic temperament and process.
